This route starts with pleasant alpine riding around the contours of the hill, through mountain pastures and along fir-tree lined single track before climbing slightly. The route will then enter deeper forest where you can enjoy a choice of descents into the village of Grand Bornand. Finish the ride back to the Lodge along village lanes and wide firetracks.
You are driven up to the 1700metre start point in the alpine hamlet of
Col des Annes. From here you drop down into the forest and follow some great
single track for a distance before climbing into open mountain territory.
Following the contours around the Mont LaChat, enjoy stunning views, before
dropping down into Chinaillon along wide but winding tracks. From Chinaillon
descend into Grand Bornand village through the trees along trails with views
down to the river below. From here you could ride back to the Lodge or we
can come and collect you.
Starting above the beautiful natural lake of Lac de Confins ride past several farms round the lake before heading over to the mountain of La Balme. Climb slightly to take you above the woods with lovely views over the valley and down into the town of La Clusaz. Drop down into the woods onto a woodland trail - also a ski run in winter - which will wind through the trees into La Clusaz. Descend into the town and then follow the road home to St Jean de Sixt and home. Not too much climbing with some gentle alpine woodland and meadow tracks.
There are a number of dedicated downhill mountain tracks and trails which you are welcome to explore on your unaccompanied rides.
Starting
from 1690 metres, this 3.3km downhill mountain biking run has a 600 metre
descent. Including steep banks and turns, jumps and ramps, suspended gangways
over deep ravines and bridges. Mattresses protect you from the trees - or
the trees from you! There are also several stopping sections where you can
stop and take a breather. Ideal for all adrenaline junkies!
A highspeed mountain biking descent covering 2.7km with a 400 metre descent. 19 steep and twisty turns through prairie grass and scrub, bringing you down almost into the heart of La Clusaz - a breathtaking descent ideal for speed freaks.
A great downhill circuit for those progressing from cross-country trails to downhill mountain biking. Gentler than the other two, La Chat still has some steep turns, jumps and speedy descents on the way down into the village of Grand Bornand.
The ski lifts are open in August and early September enabling you to catch
a lift up to some of the highest mountain peaks - so you can enjoy the thrill
of the steep downhills without the slog to get there! If you stay with us
outside this period we are able to drive you to the top in our minibuses
at the beginning of the day, also allowing you to avoid the climb. Prices
for the lifts start from 4€ to 6.5€ per descent or a day pass
costs 12€. Weekly passes are also available.
When you have had enough cycling there are plenty of other things to do in the surrounding alpine areas - ranging from adrenaline fueled paragliding to gentle relaxing massages. See our Other Activities page for ideas.
