Often some snow around at heights of over 1200 metres. Typical spring weather - lots of sunny days with the occasional shower. Spring flowers bloom in abundance brightening up the vista in front of your handlebars. Tracks can be a bit sticky from heavy dews and odd spring rainfall and there may be some icy sections on the roads first thing, but drying out towards the end of the month. Evenings start to get longer and warmer so you can hope to enjoy a beer on our sunny terrace.
Most of the snow has melted by June. Temperatures
are very pleasant although riding through the forests and along gorge roads can bring
welcome shade during the midday periods. It's a rush to get out
early at this time of year and find yourself on the first downhill
of the day as the world wakes up around you. The evening clicking
of crickets really makes you feel you're on holiday and bars start
to put the tables outside for alfresco drinks.
It's best to start your day soon after breakfast to make the most of the cool mornings before it gets too hot. Summer flowers abound on the alpine slopes and the scent of wild garlic lining the mountain roads can be overwhelming. Evenings lend themselves to peaceful starlit strolls through the village after dinner, although the hot days are occasionally interspersed with spectacular lightening storms at night.
Days are very warm to extremely hot! Temperatures can reach the mid-thirties at times so you will really appreciate the cool tumbling rivers and lakes you encounter on your rides. Perfect dry conditions for descending both off road and on. Lifts are open to transport you to the top and you can appreciate the cooling breeze through your clothes as you hurtle down the dry tracks and long mountain road descents. Evenings are long and balmy - perfect to enjoy the occasional lodge bbq.
Days start to cool to a very pleasant biking temperature but still offer fairly long days. Whilst riding beware of running down the locals who will be out enmasse picking Myrtilles and mushrooms for their dinner. Evenings are still warm enough to sit out for a pre-dinner drink on the Lodge terrace and watch the sun set behind the mountains.
Chilly mornings
with warm days. The beech trees interspersed within the fir trees
change colour lending the Aravis
range a gold and russet hue. Utterly stunning riding in crisp,
clear conditions along quiet tracks. Evenings are drawing in and
can be quite cold but you can spend a lively evening in the Lodge
bar. There may be just a dusting of snow on the tops of the highest
peaks.
Whenever you come for an alpine Bike Weekender short break holiday we are confident that you will enjoy some good weather and conditions during your stay in the Aravis mountains. For more pictures of the region throughout spring, summer and autumn see our resorts photos page.
