The Short Break Road Cycling Holiday Specialist

How to pack your bike for travel

Bike Weekender can arrange for you to hire high quality road bikes in France. But of course, you’re more than welcome to bring your own. If you’re unsure how to pack your bike for travel, working methodically will help to make life easier and to keep your bike safe.

We’ve put together a really handy “packing your bike for travel checklist” which you can download and print.

Follow these easy steps, in this order:

  • Remove both pedals
  • Remove the saddle & seat-post
  • Remove the handlebars/stem
  • Remove both wheels & skewers
  • Remove the rear derailleur using an appropriate allen key and tape to the wheel stay
  • Fasten the rear wheel in the Pod – the cassette should face outwards
  • Fasten the front wheel inside the Pod
  • Cover the wheels with the supplied foam sheets
  • Place your bike into the Pod
  • Secure the bike in position using the straps provided
  • Place the pedals, saddle and seat post inside the Pod (wrap in padding if you have some)
  • Close the box and lock if required
  • Attach the handle or straps
